Trend-driven South Beach has a reputation for fickle behavior. One day something is HOT and the next day it’s NOT. That’s why we are particularly excited to participate in the Miami Ad School and AdFed sponsored MIAMI BEACH TIME CAPSULE 2029 at the lovely Art Deco Welcome Center this Friday night, December 4 at 7pm.
The exhibit and party are featured as one of the top events of Art Basel Week on Miami Beach. Guests are welcome to share their favorite photos and memories of life in the Magic City to be included in the time capsule. Miami Heritage frequently posts images that capture the colorful glory of our city and will be adding some of our classics to the Capsule Collection.
If you live in Miami or have visited and snapped a memorable photo, bring along a copy of your favorite to be included in this important installation. You can also post your images online on Facebook.
The Art Deco Welcome Center is an iconic Art Deco structure standing on the beach at the intersection of 10 Street and Ocean Drive. Essentially the heart of the Deco District, this landmark property resembles a streamlined cruise ship at port. With round port hole windows, classic metal railings and a central mast flying the American flag, the original structure is the most obvious location to showcase the center of the Art Deco preservation movement. Thousands of tourists have taken a souvenir photo in front of the Deco calendar adjoining the property.
The Miami Design Preservation League works to ensure that architecturally important buildings remain as a testament to Miami Beach’s historic development. Expert members offer guided walking tours of the area every day and taped electronic audio guides are also available for tourists who would rather a “do it yourself” experience. The 10 Street edifice has just completed an extensive renovation and the Time Capsule party is a celebration of the relaunch of this historic destination.
Guests interested in being a part of Miami Beach history are invited to the Time Capsule Kick Off event, Friday December 4 from 7-11pm. Any piece of Miami Beach memorabilia contributed to the Time Capsule should include your name, e-mail address and a short description of the piece. Anything reflecting Miami Beach life from photos to original works of art, vintage menus, classic souvenirs of the city or personal mementos are welcome.
The Art Deco Welcome Center is located at 1001 Ocean Drive on South Beach. The Time Capsule 2029 exhibit will be open to the public in concert with Art Basel through December 6. For tour information, log onto http://www.mdpl.org
